It's been a while since we had the fluidity in our game. It definetely hasn't been like that this season. Now, what seems to be the problem?
1. Not good enough central-midfielders
2. Too much injuries in defence
3. Only one regular goal-scorer
1. Carrick has a good potential, but he suffers when there is no Keane or Hargreaves. Fletcher has been hailed as our star man, but he's not a "playing-midfielder". He's a good man to have when it comes to harass other players, but he is not a passer of the ball and that's a quality you need if you are to balance a team. Fletcher is a great squad-player for defensive away games in the Premier and Champions League, but he stops the fluidity that we are known and feared for. Anderson has been our best performer this year, but he needs a captain of the team that can whip him to perform. Gibson has one of the best shots I've seen, but he lacks everything else and is not a man for the future. Scholes don't dominate matches anymore and tries to compensate by tackling harder and putting in more effort. Setting up Giggs as a play-maker is madness and another proof of what we're missing. I love Giggs, but he's efficient in a winger/forward-role.
When you add all this misery up then you're left with a central-midfield that are GOAL-SHY and that's one of the main reasons to our problems this season.
2. Our lack of stability in defence rocks the foundations of our team and that especially goes for our midfieldes that aren't good enough to dominate games. This is why teams like aston villa, burnley and leeds can play some serious ball with us. If I was to spend money, then I'd gladly cough up £50M for Fabregas. THE REASON WHY IS TO KEEP THE BALL WHEN NEEDED AND DISTRIBUTE IT IN THE PACE WE WANT. Hargo will hopefully create some breathingspace for players like Carrick and Anderson, but we need CREATIVITY.
3. Being from Norway I like the idea that we get players from my country, but the Diouf deal is just stupid!
Rooney is consistent now, but Berbatov is not. Owen can be, but he's not given time. We do have some great talent coming through the ranks with Macheda and King (I don't think Welbeck can cut it, but I'm open to being wrong here), but the purchase of Diouf will seriously damage their chances. If Diouf was capable of scoring 20+ goals I wouldn't have a problem with it...However, he isn't!!!
The good things:
Evans and our 2 young braslilians means that our defence will be great for a long time, so I'm not worried about defence (I should mention Rio, Vida, Evra and Brown/O'Shea).
We do have some interesting midfielders coming through... Petrucci, Wolff-Eikrem, Pogba and Anderson will be a great player in 12 months time. Hargo will be like a new great signing. With Hargo coming in then Carrick and Anderson will be given the chance to shine.
This is work in progress, but as you see I'm very concerned about our total lack of fluidity...
